About World Oyama Karate

World Oyama Karate is a classic, full-contact, Japanese style of Karate
founded by Soshu Shigeru Oyama and Saiko Shihan Yasuhiko Oyama in
1985.

World Oyama Karate’s roots are with the Kyokushin Karate Organization.
In 1965, Mas Oyama, Director of the International Kyokushin Organization,
sent his chief instructor, Shigeru Oyama, from Tokyo to New York to spread
Kyokushin Karate throughout North America.  Shigeru Oyama was so
successful that by 1972, Mas Oyama sent another of his Kyokushin chief
instructors from Tokyo, Yasuhiko Oyama (brother of Shigeru Oyama), to
Birmingham, Alabama to focus on the Southeastern US.

By  1985, the World Oyama Karate Organization was founded as an
independent organization, directed by Soshu Shigeru Oyama  and Saiko
Shihan Yasuhiko Oyama.  The World Oyama Karate Organization
experienced astounding growth in the years that followed.  By the 1990s,
over 150 official World Oyama Karate dojos were established in 19
countries.  This outstanding success is based on an uncompromising
dedication to teaching excellence and a well-founded reputation for
coaching world-class, full-contact Karate champions.

About  Shihan Sakataka

Shihan Nagayasu Sakataka is a 5th degree black belt of World Oyama
Karate.  Shihan Sakataka began his training nearly 20 years ago when he
came to New York to train directly under Soshu Oyama.  Shihan Sakataka
came to Soshu as “Uchi-Deshi”, a  rigorous five-year training commitment
that many attempt, but few complete.  During his time as Uchi-Deshi,
Shihan Sakataka trained actively under Soshu’s supervision, competed in
competitions and taught students at the New York headquarters.  In 1993
he won the World Oyama Karate Invitational Knockdown Championships.
In 1997, Shihan Sakataka opened a dojo in New Jersey to spread World
Oyama Karate to other students.
